Branching Out Wood

Modern Functional Home Decor by David Wertheimer

Natural hardwoods fashioned into high quality unique home decor, with a style that combines mid-century modern and steampunk. All the work is locally handcrafted by the artist, can be customized to meet your needs, and is done in ways that minimize the carbon footprint and give back to the community.

The Inspiration

Clean lines.  Simple shapes.  Beautiful woods, highlighting the natural grain and color.

Most of my designs are original, inspired by the materials I have, a melding of pieces seen in San Francisco and in my travels, or on commission to meet particular needs and aesthetics.

All products are handcrafted and lovingly finished by myself.

The Products

Everything is hand-crafted; many pieces are customized for you in the final steps only after you order.

Browse through the Catalog for unique designs for your home, made of domestic and exotic hardwoods.

Should you want something a little more special (or substantial), please peruse the Custom Work area, showcasing a variety of pieces I have done for homes, gifts, and installations. Many of those pieces can be recreated as is, or with modest dimensional or finishing adjustments. I'm happy to engage in a conversation about creating a new design unique for you as well.  Additionally, most of the standard Catalog can be modified - cord length, wood type, etc. - on request.

The Craftsman

I have always loved working with my hands and seeing what I could create, whether it was with my childhood model train, or an early attempt at a wooden serving tray.

My learning began with my father, a talented DIYer who could build or fix just about anything.  In the years since, I've picked up skills from friends, and from good ol' fashioned trial and error.

Sustainability

Wood: The raw wood comes from MacBeath Hardwoods and Moore Newton, both local FSC-certified distributors of lumber. And all wood shavings I create in the process are locally composted.

Electricity: All power used in milling, cutting, drilling, sanding, and otherwise finishing the products is 100% provided by on-site solar power.

Give Back: 10% of the revenues are invested in net new solar energy projects, "adopting" panels across the US, helping to bring clean energy to fruition and combat the very real threats of climate change.
