I’m a bit behind in keeping my blog going, but I haven’t been sitting still! I thought I’d share a few pictures from some recent projects as a way to kickstart the creative juices for future posts (or to help motivate you in some projects in your own home).

Shaker Fireplace Mantle

I just wrapped up this project for a client in South San Francisco who was a pleasure to work with; he consulted with me on requirements for the marble surround, and once that was installed, I took inspiration from a few photos he shared of mantles he liked to render, and then build, this. It’s primarily poplar, but with a maple top for added scratch / dent resistance.

Media Console & CD Storage Rack

This was a fun project in San Francisco; the client was inspired by a Room and Board design, but wanted a more refined set of legs, and a much larger design to accommodate his large stereo system. The case work is made of walnut plywood, but the slats and doors are of solid walnut, with each slat secured by four dowel joints, which required nearly one thousand precisely drilled holes. The CD rack mounted above is made of solid walnut sides with wenge trim and mahogany backs, and boasts over forty linear feet of storage space in a way that allows for creative organization of a multi-genre collection, as well as for elegant display of some knickknacks in spaces between the shelves.

Art Deco Home Decor

I built these series of pieces for an art deco retreat in a recently remodeled in-law space in our own home. The corner lamp and storage shelf was inspired by a design I made for a client a few years ago, and the reading nook with shelves underneath allowed for us to finally consolidate the copious picture books around the home. The slight recess between the entryway and the bathroom, previously a poorly-used space, now has three elegant rosewood-veneered shelves.
